Phil Whelan (FCA)

CEO

Having studied history and politics at Liverpool University, Phil spent 5 years in the retail and consumer markets department at KPMG. He then joined M&S where he worked in Treasury & Corporate Strategy before spending 2 years as a buyer.

In 2007, Phil founded MM Flowers. For over a decade he has led the group with MM Flowers now a major player in the sector, supplying flowers to a cross-section of retailers across the UK & Europe

Phil is a qualified accountant.

Dan Pickford (FCCA)

CFO

A graduate of University College London, Dan began his career in retail and consumer goods with M&S. Dan undertook a number of commercial roles before moving into Finance. Time spent in Commercial Finance, Financial Control and SAP implementation, provided all-round experience in Finance.

After 10 years, Dan moved to Tesco, where he was a Head of Finance within Foods. Dan also performed a number of projects for the wider Tesco Group, working closely with many of the executives within Tesco, both in the UK and Internationally

Dan joined MM Flowers in April 2018.

Richard Brannam

Director of Group Operations

With over 30 years experience in short shelf life chilled product businesses, Richard has held various roles at Operating Board level including Managing Director, Operations Director and Supply Chain Director.

Having worked for blue chip organisations such as Northern Foods and Samworth Brothers, Richard originally came on board with MM Flowers in order to manage the Design, Build and Transition into the new APS facility and subsequently joined the business as Director of Group Operations in 2016.

Liz Michie (FCIPD)

HR Director

Liz studied Environmental Biology & Geography at The University of Hull and in her early career spent time in recruitment before moving into HR

A commercial, driven HR Director with a proven track record of delivering across a range of environments, Liz has spent over 15 years operating at a senior level within manufacturing and logistics. Liz believes passionately in the value people bring at all levels in organisations and in addition to her primary role also holds voluntary board positions in both Education and Theatre.

Andrew Kirkham (MCIPS)

Director of Group Procurement

An experienced Director with over 29 years knowledge across multiple disciplines in both the fresh produce and cut flower sectors.

Andy has operated at Board level for the past 15 years in two different companies. He has a proven track record of building successful teams which operate in procurement, supply chain and customer facing activities, delivering for all stakeholders.

Andy is very much focused on delivering value for both customers and suppliers and ensuring that the most efficient route to market is always achieved.

Colum Donnelly

Director of Group Technical

A Horticulture graduate from the University of Reading, Colum began his career as an agronomist. It was during this period in primary horticultural production, that Colum first became interested in cut flowers, converting a fruit farm into one of the largest cut flower production units in the UK. He completed the full cycle of the supply chain with careers in both flower import/processing companies and Retail.

Colum believes passionately in bringing scientific solutions to all aspects of the chain.

Jurgen De Vries

Director of Group Procurement

Jurgen has been working in the flower industry for many years, often spending his school holidays working at or around flowers. Both his father and grandfather had flower export companies with Jurgen following in the family tradition - working in the flower industry from 1994 and joined MM Flowers in 2014. Jurgen lives in Aalsmeer, the home of the largest flower market in the world, Royal FloraHolland.

Bas Ermerins

Commercial Director Europe

After finishing his masters Strategic management at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Bas spent 4 years in the flower business developing an online sourcing platform in East Africa. He then joined MM Flowers in 2015 and spent the last years in the commercial team for Europe and headed the group sourcing for East Africa and South America. In his current role Bas is responsible for the European retail sales and based in the new built facility near Amsterdam.

Mike Walsh

Supply Chain Director UK

Having studied for a Masters of Mathematics at Newcastle University, Mike successfully completed a 2 year graduate program with Kerry Ingredients before venturing into the world of high care short shelf life production with Fenmarc Produce.

After a successful 5 years as Factory General Manager with Fenmarc, followed by time working with Westland Horticulture and Valley Grown Salads Mike joined MM Flowers. Over the last 13 years Mike has worked in several departments, covering Commercial, Procurement, Planning and more recently progressing into the role of Supply Chain Director.
